Living as we do, in a rural area removed from easy access to big box stores and other amenities, we pay special attention to the seasons. With the time change and arrival of more daylight comes the promise of warming soil and springtime. Flats of seeds are sprouting on our heat-mats in the greenhouse, and a new hive of bees has joined our existing hives in the yard. Piglets are on their way, and we've started collecting eggs for incubating. We've also welcomed the latest addition to our growing flock of chickens and ducks, a clutch of Silkie chicks. The girls (and dog) are happily mothering them as they hang out under their heat lamp in the laundry room until they can be moved down to the chicken coop with the other birds. We are anxiously awaiting the return of reliably good weather when we can begin a regular attendance at outdoor markets, pending a relaxation of Covid regulations of course! Check out our "Markets" post for an updated list of where we will be during the season. Wishing you a happy spring!
